Description
The double hung window is the most sought after traditional window style. Their design allows for the opening of both top and bottom sash, facilitating controlled ventilation from any height in the room. Fiberglass gives these windows unsurpassed strength, minimal thermal transfer and optimum viewing area. Double hung windows are ideal replacements in many historic buildings, in which the double hung style is the most prevalent original window style.
Product
Shall be Series 900 Double Hung/Tilt Window, as manufactured by INLINE FIBERGLASS Limited with a frame of 3 1/4" (82.5 mm) and in compliance with AAMA 101I.S2 and CAN/CSA-A440.1 and CSA A440.2 (AAMA 101-93) standards.
Materials
All frames and sash profiles are made from Pultruded Fiberglass, having a nominal of wall thickness of 0.090" (2.3 mm), with minimum glass content of 60%. Non-structural accessory members are permitted to be in vinyl or aluminum and are identified as such.
Construction
Frame and sash corners are connected with molded reinforced plymer shearblocks and mechanically secured. Joints are factory sealed and neatly fitted together. The perimeter of open-back frames shall be filled with insulation.
Finish
All exposed surfaces are coated with durable lsocynate-free 2 part Polymer enamel with minimum dry film thickness of 1.5 mils and medium gloss of 25-55. Finish shall resist chipping, blistering, chalking, discoloration and aging under all atmospheric conditions. Conforms to AAMA 603 and 613 Organic Coatings. Standard colours are: White, Ivory, Sandalwood, Commercial Brown and Forest Green. (Custom colours and split frame painting is available.)
Hardware
Locks: two sets of die-cast cam locks with release latch and keepers. Two STH, Interlink, die-cast metal locks with release latch and keepers are available as an option. Two spiral sash balances for each sash (optional are stainless steel constant force balances), two pairs of tilt latch assemblies, two pairs of pivot bars, sash stoppers and lift handles (sash opening restrictors and night latch are optional extra). Hardware is installed with fasteners into patented back-up reinforcing clips.
Weather-Stripping
Frame and sash each have Schlegal "Fin-Seal" weatherstripping on the exterior; "Q-Lon" air-seal gasket on the interior; and meeting rail has a co-extruded PVC leaf-type weatherstrip to provide a positive air vapour seal.
Glass
All windows are glazed with 20 mm (13/16") insulating glass units. Glass thickness shall comply with local National Building Codes, but not less than 3 mm (1/8"). Units are assembled with a dual seal (polysulphide/Butyl) to CGSB 12.8- 90 and Certified by inspection by the Insulated Glass Manufacturers Association.
Glazing Method
Laid-in glazing using polyethylene closed cell tape on the exterior and a [fiberglass] or [PVC] glass stop locked-in from the interior provides a secure and positive seal for the glass.
Insect Screens
Full-height, roll-formed aluminum frame with friction fit corner keys. Screen mesh (Fiberglass or Aluminum) retained by vinyl spline.
Installation
Shall be performed by experienced installers in accordance with manufacturer instructions and CSA A-440.4. Window shall be plumbed and square after installation is complete and sealed to both interior and exterior wall with high quality sealant around the perimeter of the frame. If perimeter cavity is to ve foamed, additional anchorage may be required to prevent bowing. It shall be the responsibility of the installers to make all the necessary final adjustments to ensure normal and smooth operation.
